Resume Writing - How Much to Include

These questions about resume writing came up when I spoke about Career Advancement at the Detroit Chapter of Women in eDiscovery.

How many jobs should be included?  There is no right or wrong answer. Your resume should establish your qualifications for the specific job you are applying for.  The extent to which you reference older jobs will depend on the relevance of those experiences.

How long should it be?  A professional resume can be two pages, as long as the most pertinent information is on the first page, and the information on the second page is necessary.

Are dates of graduation required?  Don’t try to hide your age.  Full disclosure is the best way to start a relationship with a new employer.

What about outdated memberships?  Include them if you have been on the board, or part of a significant initiative.  Seminars attended at association meetings can be included in the continuing education section.
